How to run a remote Secret Santa

You do not need to be in the same room to draw names or open presents together. For a remote exchange, a clear delivery plan matters just as much as keeping the name draw secret.

Let people join and draw asynchronously

Create a Snowdraw group and send its invitation link through your team chat, email or WhatsApp. Participants join without installing an app or creating an account. Check that the final list is complete before starting the draw.

Once the organiser starts the draw, people can open their own cards whenever they are available. Everyone does not have to be online together. Save the personal card link so it is easy to return to the result later; do not paste that link into a shared chat.

Arrange addresses separately

Snowdraw does not collect delivery addresses or send gifts. Decide how your group wants to share addresses before drawing names. Directly asking a recipient for their address is simple, but may reveal who is buying for them.

A volunteer delivery coordinator or an agreed collection point can help preserve the surprise. Share delivery information only with the people who need it, and only with the recipient's agreement. Never put home addresses in a public invitation or social post.

Work backwards from the opening date

Choose the gift-opening day first, then set shopping and posting deadlines. Check the seller's current delivery estimate at checkout, especially during December. International shipping can involve customs charges and difficult returns, so buying from a shop in the recipient's country may be easier.

Agree on a currency and whether postage counts toward the limit. Digital vouchers are an option only after checking the recipient's country, shop and account restrictions. A voucher bought for one regional store may not work in another.

Make the opening call easy to join

Choose a short video call that respects participants' time zones. Ask early recipients to keep their parcels wrapped until the agreed day. If a package is delayed, let the coordinator know privately and include the person in the call anyway.

Snowdraw handles the name draw; it does not process purchases, guarantee shop availability or track delivery. Browse the budget gift ideas for a starting point, then confirm prices and shipping with the retailer. Keep a little room in the schedule for ordinary holiday delays.
